The second HarrowHeadZ beer festival, run in conjunction with the Lord Harrowby, Dudley Rd and Grantham CAMRA beer festival, takes place at BeerHeadZ Grantham from Wednesday August 2nd through to Sunday 6th and features around 24 beers between the two pubs over the five days. At this week’s BeerHeadZ research (yes, honest!) trip to the excellently organised Leicester CAMRA beer festival, BeerHead Phil ran into old acquaintance Owen Ogletree, renowned American beer blogger, BJCP beer judge and founder of both the Brewtopia website and Classic City Brew Fest which is held in Athens, Georgia, USA. When he’s not drinking, judging or writing about beer, Owen still finds time to organise beer tours around Europe for like-minded folk, taking in some of the best beer destinations in the world. This weekend sees our second ‘Next Stop Hop City’ beer fest at BeerHeadZ Retford, which compliments the Retford Beer Festival which runs Fri 7th – Sun 9th October. BeerHeadZ Retford will be featuring, over the weekend: Atom (Hull: 2013) – Singularity 3.5% The Atom twist on a mild: Big chunky body, and infused with oak smoked wheat and vanilla, aged on oak. Tons of flavour in a small package. BlackJack (Manchester: 2012) – Shuffled Deck 3.9% Golden/Blond Ale. Aromas of citrus, light floral hops. Taste is light bitter, faint malt. Bitter finish. By the Horns (Merton: 2011) – Hop Air Balloon 4.2% Aroma and taste combines sweet bready malts, light citrus accents of lemon, straw, some grassy and floral hoppy action. We now have the final list for this week’s forthcoming Cannon Ale Run festival, which features BeerHeadZ Retford, the White Lion and the Idle Valley Tap and starts this Thursday June 23rd and runs (excuse the pun) through until Sunday 26th. Almasty – Citra 4.2% A single hopped pale ale. Bad Seed – Session I.P.A 4.0% A session IPA with German Comet, German Cascade & Perle hops. Cloudwater – Bitter 4.3% A hoppy bitter using seasonal ingredients. Errant – Knight 3.5% A classic bitter with English hops. Errant/Quilliam – Ahab 5.0% Lapsang Souchong stout. BeerHeadZ Retford are delighted to be part of the first Retford inter-pub beer festival, entitled the ‘Cannon Ale Run’. It will spotlight three pubs: BeerHeadZ, the Idle Valley Tap and the White Lion, running from Thursday, June 23rd – Sunday 26th and featuring around 30 cask beers sourced both locally and from around the country. Prizes will be awarded for those completing the run. Simply pick up a collectors card from any of the participating pubs and collect stamps when ordering your pints. Fab!
