Five years, five pubs and five entries in latest guide. BeerHeadZ was founded just five years ago in Retford and have expanded rapidly; opening pubs in Grantham, Nottingham, Lincoln and Melton Mowbray, five in total. BeerHeadZ has developed a sound reputation for quality and exciting beer and the brand is now instantly recognised by beer lovers around the East Midlands. The Good Beer Guide, now in its 47th edition, is produced annually by CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale) and features 4,500 UK pubs serving the best quality beer. It is compiled by an army of unpaid volunteers who anonymously inspect the Nation’s pubs to produce a list of the few that make it into the Guide, which is widely referred to as ‘The Drinker’s Bible’. It is the go-to resource for all discerning beer drinkers. To celebrate the milestone …

GBBF should change.

Well, the curtain closes on another hugely successful Great British Beer Festival, which ended yesterday. But whilst I enjoyed it and think it’s an incredibly well-run event and one that CAMRA should justifiably be proud of, I can’t help thinking that it’s not what it should be. Sure, there were 900-odd beers showcased. Sure, the beer (certainly the ones I sampled) was in top nick, but there is something big missing. GBBF, as CAMRA’s showcase event, should be highlighting the very best of the British beer industry. They should be presenting the pioneering breweries that are producing fantastic beers using cutting-edge techniques to brew exciting and innovative, world-class beers.  These breweries were almost totally absent (with less than a handful of exceptions – Tiny Rebel and Vocation to name a couple) and the beer choice was, in the main (and …

BeerHeadZ Grantham collected its first award last night when it was awarded the accolade of Grantham CAMRA’s Town Pub of the Year. It joins BeerHeadZ Retford in being recognised as a leading venue for quality and exciting beers. The certificate was handed over by branch chairman Nev Lomas and there to receive the award were team members Simon, Mark and Neal. Ex-manager Andrew was also there to join in the celebrations. Sadly Briony and Sam were absent but their contributions to BeerHeadZ’ success was not forgotten. Of course, without the customers none of this would have been possible, so we thank you for your support and salute you all! Cheers!

BeerHeadZ Retford continues to add to its list of awards (we’ll need a bigger wall soon) by being named North Notts CAMRA’s latest Pub of the Season for Winter. The presentation will be this coming Saturday 7th Jan, from 2 o’clock onward. We look forward to you joining Josh and the rest of the team to raise a jar or two. Thanks for everyone’s support over the past twelve months and Happy New Year to you all!

Why CAMRA MUST change.

There has been much said in the past few weeks about the future of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale. Once described as the ‘most successful consumer group in Europe’, it has achieved so much for the real ale drinker or, for that matter, any beer drinkers and general pub-goers, that it is hard to imagine what the beer and pub scene in Britain would be today if CAMRA had never formed. With a membership approaching 200,000 – and that fact alone is impressive – CAMRA still hold enormous clout. But with Real Ale ‘saved’, where do they channel their efforts now? For this reason, CAMRA have announced their ‘Revitalisation Project’ – a year-long consultation of its members on what CAMRA’s new direction should be. And therein lies the problem. With the rise of ‘Craft’ beer – love it or …

BeerHeadZ Retford wins N. Notts POTY

BeerHeadZ Retford have won the title of North Notts CAMRA Pub of the Year 2015 in its first year of opening. The certificate was presented on 21st March by Steve Bownes of N. Notts CAMRA, who commented that it was a remarkable achievement to win both two Pub of the Season awards then POTY in the same year. We are delighted to accept the award and put it down to the hard work of our Retford team and, of course, our customer’s support. BeerHeadZ Retford now go head-to-head with four other branch winners to win the regional competition. Wish us luck, and thanks for your continued support.
